Miranda Smith was the mother of Cel Smith, and was a recurring character. She was a member of the Hathaway Family. 

History

Miranda on August 1, 1973 to Henry Pearson and Sally Pearson, she was their first born daughter. Her mother Sally was only 18 when she had her, her father being 19. Though they knew she would be a witch, her parents weren't capable of taking care of a child at the time, Sally still being in high school, and her father was going to college to be a lawyer, they just couldn't care for her. Sally's distant cousin, Mason Hathaway and his wife Darla Hathaway offered to take care of her, and also had Sally and Henry joined their coven. In high school, as a senior, she met Laura Pearson, later Ross, and the two, became best friends, seeing they had a resemblence to each other, never gave it much thought. She graduated high school, and married Jeff Smith, who was also a witch and joined the coven, so did Laura's husband Samuel. She got pregnant around the same time Laura did, who was much younger then her. Their daughters became best friends, and close as sisters. About a year after Cel was born, Miranda's adoptive parents died in a car crash, something that has haunted her since. As her husband was a doctor, she decided to become a nurse, and Jeff and her went to the hospital and worked to help others, and they were leading figures in their coven, Jeff later became the leader after Henry Pearson died from old age, which was in 2009. Sally was proud of her daughters, but she never told Miranda that she was her real mother, till it was to late, when after Jeff got killed by a hybrid, she became grief stricken, and took his body back in route to Seaside. On her way, the Circle of Nine, a rival clan of the Hathaway family, wanted to kill every member of their coven, due to the fact that they were one of the strongest known covens. They sensed where she was, and surrounded her as she drove through the cliff side, they forced the car to drive over the ramp, Miranda died on impact when the car crashed into the rocks below. She was the first Hathaway Coven member to die by the Circle of Nine.

Miranda is mentioned throughout the book, mostly by her daughter Cel. Her death is finally revealed, when Francis Hathaway, the founder of the coven, comes back into the lives of his descendants, and tells them that every member of the coven is being targeted, and he was there to help be rid of "devils" that were killing his family, the Circle of Nine.

Appearance

Miranda had short brown hair that she usually kept down.. She has dark green forest eyes and pale skin like her sister. She was 5ft 3in tall, and wore dresses with flats often. Or slacks with a nice blouse. She sometimes would wear jeans with knee high boots, her favorite blue sweater and her silk black scarf.
